Kiwifruit requires very specific climatic conditions, so its production is narrowly restricted to particular areas. Just ten countries produce over 93% of the world harvest (source : the French Kiwi Board (Bureau Interprofessionnel du Kiwi), 2/2007).

Production in France
Some 1,500 French producers harvest each year between 60,000 and 75,000 tonnes of kiwifruit, placing France 5th in the world ranking of producer countries, after China, Italy, New Zealand and Chile. France is recognized for the quality of its fruits, and exports 40% of its production to the rest of Europe and to Asia and America
